When the building of our house began we decided that, rather than pay rent in town on top of an increasing mortgage as the build progressed, we would put a caravan on the site and live there.

Small beginnings for BigWords

Posted on 07. Aug 2008 by Usesbigwords in Untagged

Like most new businesses, I have started small.  But like its name implies, BigWords has some lofty goals and a lot of ideas to keep me busy.

There are thousands of people out there of varying degrees of talent who say; "I've always wanted to write."  Well, I'm not one of them.  the simple fact is, I've always written.  If you don't believe me asked my parents - they're school teachers, you know.

This in itself is not exactly why I loved to read and write so young, although there is an indirect link between my parents' chosen vocation and my fascination with words.

At three and four years old, I was on occaisions plonked amid the new entrants kids at the school where my dad worked when my mum - the regular relieving teacher - couldn't find a baby sitter.  After a while I put aside my colouring book and joined in with the lessons.

Not surprisingly my reading and writing was well underway when I officially started school, and I would find my imagination wandering once I had completed my work, waiting for those who had started cold at five to catch up. So I wrote stories.
